OUR MISSION: The mission of the Southeast Center for Healthy Communities (SCHC) is to promote and support community-based prevention that builds communities in which health, well-being and safety are sustained.  We help build functional community partnerships targeting health improvement strategies to most effectively impact substance abuse outcomes.

 

Our primary goals are to:

  • Promote collaboration among communities to reduce the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, particularly among youth and young adults.                           

 

  • Mobilize youth and young adults for leadership and civic action.

 

  • Promote partnerships among regional and local public health leaders.    

 

 

WHO WE ARE:  The Southeast Center for Healthy Communities is a program of Health Care of Southeastern Massachusetts, Inc. The SCHC is funded by the Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services in coordination with the Office of Healthy Communities, to assist communities and organizations in developing effective substance abuse prevention strategies for the greater well-being of their residents.

 

WHO WE SERVE:  The SCHC partners with community groups and coalitions, which are comprised of a diverse cross-section of the community.  Members of these groups may include educators, health and human service providers, local government, youth, business people, clergy, law enforcement personnel, and members of the general community and other community leaders for 69 cities and towns throughout Southeastern Massachusetts.

 

This year our primary partners are:

  • Seven selected Substance Abuse Prevention Coalitions addressing environmental prevention strategies for alcohol and other drug prevention.  The seven communities are: Brockton, Cape Cod (Barnstable County), Fall River, Middleboro, New Bedford, Plymouth, and Taunton.
